just because neither is more important than the other

A series of bomb blasts across Iraq on Monday killed at least 42 people and wounded more than 257 others, police said.

It’s easy to forget about other things when there was a bombing today in Boston but it should be a reminder that no matter where we are or come from, we’re all the same.  There were tons of bombings in Iraq and they deal with this on a regular basis but that doesn’t mean it diminishes what happened in Boston today.  My thoughts are with everyone that was affected by the bombings in Boston AND in Iraq and I hope one day we can live in a world where this is NO ONE’S norm.

I love this. Today’s events are tragic and the outpouring of support is wonderful to see, but it’s also critical to remember that things like this happen every day all over the world and we should be fighting for peace everywhere, not just where it affects us the most.

You can’t expect peace in our homes and public spaces when they’re bombing and violating other people’s in our name. You just can’t. We become open to being that kind of country where that happens. Because we’ve normalized doing it to other people.

Okay so two fucking bombs go off today in America, TWO PEOPLE DEAD, and we think it’s a giant tragedy.

Why should I care when America is responsible for thousands of deaths in Iraq every year?

We should care because every human life matters, the two in Boston as well as the thousands on the other side of the planet. I get your sentiment, because when I saw the video of the bombs go off, my first thought was “Can you imagine living with this every single day,” but I absolutely do still care just as much for American innocent humans as for the innocent humans in the Middle East. Every victim of something like this - political, religious, or just plain random violence - matters.

And that is literally all I am going to say on the Boston Marathon bombings.

Merely stating that America makes a bigger deal over deaths of their own citizens than deaths of Middle Eastern citizens.

I knew I would get shit for that. You make great assumptions, and if you think two American deaths are worth more attention and distress than the thousands of deaths that America is responsible for, I am not the heartless one here.
